Course Report

Golf Digest named Squire Creek the No. 1 golf course in Louisiana and the fifth best new private course nationally upon opening. It regularly hosts college and amateur championships and is frequented by notable celebrities.

About

Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, Louisiana, is a Tom Fazio-designed private course recognized as the top-ranked golf course in the state by Golf Digest. Opened in 2002, this 7,105-yard, par-72 layout offers rolling hills, pine trees, immaculate landscaping, and a modern 40,000-square-foot clubhouse. It serves as the home course for Louisiana Tech and hosts multiple prestigious amateur tournaments.

Caddie Tip

Position is everything. Keep drives in play and avoid aggressive lines off the tee. Fazio’s design puts a premium on approach angles into greens and subtle elevation changes, so favor the wide sides of fairways, check pin locations, and don’t short-side yourself on approaches or chips.

The Main Challenge

Squire Creek’s challenge comes from its demanding tee shots, subtle undulation, hefty bunkers, and small, well-defended greens. Proper club selection and shot placement are required on nearly every hole, especially with frequent crosswinds and water hazards lurking on the back nine.

The Good

Golfers rave about immaculate conditions, sprawling bunkering, and Tom Fazio’s seamless use of native elevation changes. The course offers a tranquil, exclusive experience and an impressive finishing stretch, while the grand clubhouse and attentive staff make for a luxurious club atmosphere.

The Not So Good

Some members mention that summer heat and humidity can impact late-season turf quality. Others wish for better drainage in low-lying areas after heavy rains and more creative culinary options given the prestige and fees of the club.
