Course Report

CostaTerra is Discovery Land Company's first European project, set on over 800 acres of protected, Natura 2000-listed land, and features a single, untouched white sand beach more than 65 km long as part of its property.

About

CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club, designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2024, is an exclusive, private championship course routed through pine forests, coastal dunes, and heathlands near Melides. Featuring breathtaking Atlantic views and blending harmoniously with protected natural landscapes, the course is a standout example of luxury golf integrated with nature, accessible only to members and their guests.

Caddie Tip

Emphasize accuracy off the tee, particularly on drives into the prevailing ocean breezes. Green complexes are large and undulating, so pay attention to pin positions and don't overclub on approach shots; expect some fast, firm bounces off sandy turf and run-off slopes.

The Main Challenge

The toughest aspect is handling crosswinds on exposed holes close to the Atlantic and controlling trajectory over sandy terrain. Tight, protected approaches toward Fazio’s green sites demand precise irons and confident bunkering. Recovery is tricky for missed greens, with runoffs and native hazards punishing mistakes.

The Good

Golfers rave about the natural beauty—dunes, pine forests, and ocean panoramas create an immersive, tranquil golf setting. The Tom Fazio routing is harmonious with the land, using elevation changes, sandy soils, and dramatic sightlines to deliver a memorable and engaging golf experience unique to Portugal’s Blue Coast.

The Not So Good

As a brand-new club, members note the sparse clubhouse landscape and limited shading near teeing grounds. Some wish for more frequent refreshment spots and on-course comfort stations as amenities expand. Native rough can be punishing for errant shots, so a few would welcome slightly more forgiving transitions around landing areas.
