Course Report

The Karoo Course was built almost entirely on the site of the famed World Woods Pine Barrens and was named Golf Inc.'s 2025 Development of the Year.

About

Opened in 2024 and designed by Kyle Franz atop Tom Fazio's previous Pine Barrens routing, the Karoo Course at Cabot Citrus Farms offers a unique blend of dramatic, sandy Florida terrain, bold green complexes, and expansive waste areas. The course features wide fairways and firm playing conditions, evoking a modern inland-links feel while embracing the rugged natural beauty of Central Florida.

Caddie Tip

Work closely with your caddie to navigate the deceptive sight lines, especially off the tee. Avoid deep fairway waste areas and play for position, not just distance—greens are sprawling but can repel off-line shots. Club selection is especially tricky on the par-3s due to wind and pin placements.

The Main Challenge

Karoo’s greatest challenge is found in its massive, undulating greens and gnarly waste areas, which demand both strategic thinking and precision approach shots. The firm, fast surfaces reward creativity but punish poor position, making recovery tough if you miss the right side of the fairway or green.

The Good

Golfers rave about the bold, sprawling green complexes and the strategic intrigue of nearly every hole. The course’s visual drama, with sand-capped fairways and waste areas set against Central Florida’s forested backdrop, delivers a playing experience reminiscent of top international venues, yet uniquely Floridian.

The Not So Good

As Cabot Citrus Farms is still developing surrounding amenities, visiting golfers note the limited dining choices and a clubhouse in transition. Some mention that course routing and signage can be confusing for first-timers. Further maturing of turf and facilities is expected to enhance the overall offering.

Signature Hole:

#

3

No items found.

The par-3 3rd is a showstopper, playing anywhere from 125 to nearly 292 yards to a vast, steeply sloped green. The narrow target requires precision, as it can be up to a four-club difference depending on pin position. The hole's dramatic visuals and strategic demand make it Karoo's standout.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Temporary clubhouse and dining at The Porch and Grange Hall offer casual fare, while luxury cottages are available for overnight stays. Extensive future amenities include a racquet center, market, pools, and expanded formal clubhouse dining.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The property features an expansive, state-of-the-art practice center under construction, driving range, short game areas, bunkers, and multiple putting greens. Access is currently limited but will rival top U.S. destinations once completed.
