Course Report

Frederica’s greens are among the largest Tom Fazio has ever built, offering unique putting challenges for all levels of golfers.

About

Frederica Golf Club, designed by Tom Fazio with assistance from Sir Michael Bonallack, sprawls across 340 acres in a private, coastal Georgia community. Opened in 2005, it features massive, undulating greens and wide fairways framed by grand live oaks and pines. Its challenging design is matched by pristine conditioning and a luxurious, member-focused atmosphere.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approach shots whenever possible; the massive and subtly contoured greens can make for brutally difficult putts if you leave yourself above the pin, and water hazards lurk throughout the back nine, especially on aggressive lines.

The Main Challenge

Frederica’s toughest test is navigating its sprawling, undulating greens and strategically placed water hazards, particularly on the back nine. The closing stretch demands both power and precision, with risk-reward decisions that can shift a match’s outcome in a single shot.

The Good

Members rave about the course’s meticulous conditioning and the grand scale of its grounds. The exceptional service, outstanding practice facilities, and beautiful scenery among lakes, pines, and oaks enhance the club’s luxe, tranquil atmosphere. The 18th hole is considered a standout among modern golf finishes.

The Not So Good

Some golfers note that while the front nine is strong, it doesn’t quite match the compelling design and drama of the back nine, which features more water and risk-reward opportunities. The exclusivity also makes it inaccessible for most golfers who aren’t members or guests.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The 18th at Frederica is a risk-reward par 5 that doglegs left, tempting big hitters to go for the green in two. Its peninsula green juts into Lake Frederica, demanding a bold approach over water to finish strong. This memorable closer rewards strategic shot-making and punishes the slightest miscue.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The elegant clubhouse offers fine and casual dining, locker rooms, a well-appointed pro shop, meeting spaces, and luxury cottages for member stays. A lakeside boathouse and fitness facilities round out the exclusive club experience.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Extensive practice grounds include a full-length driving range, multiple short-game areas, practice bunkers, and expansive putting greens, all maintained to the same high standards as the course itself.
