Course Report

The course was created by members of the McArthur Dairy family, who have farmed in Florida since the 1920s. Over a million cubic yards of sugar sand were moved to create the routing through four distinct Floridian ecosystems.

About

McArthur Golf Club, designed by Tom Fazio and Nick Price, is a private sanctuary for pure golf on a pristine, secluded 500-acre property in Hobe Sound. Opened in 2002, the course integrates Florida's native landscapes, offering a blend of prairie, wetlands, and dune ecosystems with no surrounding development, catering to members seeking privacy and premium golf.

Caddie Tip

The course rewards precise shot placement—fairways may appear generous, but subtle slopes and strategic bunkering around greens demand thoughtful club choice and approach angles. Play conservatively off the tee when in doubt, and pay attention to pin locations, as the greens are sizable and tiered.

The Main Challenge

The routing leverages natural hazards and wind exposure, with several holes playing over or alongside water and thick native vegetation. The greens are fast and contoured, requiring both distance control and imagination. The closing stretch is particularly demanding, punishing wayward shots and demanding focus.

The Good

Golfers rave about its sense of seclusion and tranquility—no homes or development intrude on play, creating a feeling of pure immersion in nature. The course layout is lauded for its strategic challenge and thoughtful use of native terrain, making each round feel fresh and unique.

The Not So Good

Some golfers mention that the remote setting and exclusive membership model, while wonderful for privacy, can make socializing or networking challenging for visitors. Also, winds and natural elements can be punishing on certain days, adding unpredictable difficulty.
