Course Report

Fazio Canyons was the first resort course in Texas to be certified as an Audubon International Signature Sanctuary for its dedication to environmental stewardship.

About

Fazio Canyons at Omni Barton Creek Resort, designed by Tom Fazio in 1999, meanders through Austin’s scenic Hill Country. This par-72 resort course features dramatic elevation changes, Red Oaks, Sycamores, and limestone creeks. Certified as an Audubon International Signature Sanctuary, it blends strong shot values with environmental sensitivity and offers a memorable, challenging yet accessible golf experience.

Caddie Tip

Take an extra club on uphill approaches and favor safer lines over bold shots, as many holes have steep slopes, hazards or creeks guarding landing zones. Watch for firm, undulating greens—approach placement is vital, especially on the back nine’s elevation changes.

The Main Challenge

The combination of significant elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, and limestone creeks make accuracy and club selection paramount. The back nine features a series of demanding approach shots and undulating greens, especially on holes 10–13, which can quickly penalize errant shots.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the stunning Hill Country setting, impressive elevation changes, and the diversity of holes. The course’s natural beauty is matched by strategic shot values and a routing that keeps play interesting, with several memorable risk-reward opportunities, especially across the middle stretch.

The Not So Good

Some players feel the price is a bit high for non-resort guests, and a few mention that cart path–only rules can slow the pace of play. Occasionally, the distance between holes means it's challenging to walk, and stretches in the Texas heat can feel long.
