Course Report

The original Blackwolf Run routing, combining holes from Meadow Valleys and River, hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 1998 and 2012. The Meadow Valleys course was also ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses by Golf Digest.

About

The Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run, designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1990, is renowned for its blend of rolling prairies, dramatic elevation, and strategic bunkering. Recognized among America's finest public courses, it offers a test of skill with varied terrain, subtle greens, and picturesque views in a refined resort setting.

Caddie Tip

On Meadow Valleys, accuracy off the tee is rewarded more than distance, as large fairways lull aggressiveness but hidden hazards can quickly penalize stray shots. Pay particular attention to ravines and elevation shifts on the back nine, where club selection and uphill/downhill lies challenge even experienced players.

The Main Challenge

Meadow Valleys’ greatest challenge comes on the back nine, where holes demand both length and precision over ravines and sloping greens. Small mistakes off the tee or aggressive approaches often lead to tough recoveries, while the fast Bentgrass greens can be difficult to judge, especially under tournament conditions.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the overall strategy and visual appeal, particularly the diversity of holes and the compelling back nine routed over ravines and through mature woods. Many note that the impressive green complexes and Pete Dye’s trademark features keep the round both entertaining and challenging.

The Not So Good

Several players comment that the less dramatic holes on the early front nine can feel less inspiring compared to the exciting back nine. Others wish for more separation from the adjacent River Course or improved pace of play during busy resort weekends.

15

The par-4 15th is regarded as Meadow Valleys’ signature hole, demanding a strategic tee shot over a ravine to a sloping fairway, then an approach to a green perched atop another ravine. The unique elevation shifts and natural features require accuracy and nerve on each shot, providing a memorable and challenging experience.
