Course Report

During Iceland’s midnight sun in summer, you can tee off at Brautarholt and play golf 24 hours a day, experiencing one of the world's most unique golf adventures.

About

Brautarholt Golf Club is a dramatic 12-hole public links course perched on the coast circa 30 minutes north of Reykjavik, designed by Edwin Roald. Opened in 2011, the layout blends seamlessly with its rocky peninsula setting, offering ocean vistas and strategic holes shaped by the natural landscape. The course is widely recognized for its scenery and unique midnight golf opportunity.

Caddie Tip

The wind is not just a factor but a defining experience at Brautarholt—club up or down more than you’re used to, and give yourself extra margin away from the cliff edges. With contoured fairways and firm turf, play for extra rollout on landing. Reading putts here is tricky, as seaside breezes shift subtly and can affect ball break.

The Main Challenge

The course's greatest challenge is the relentless wind, which can change direction quickly, affecting both club selection and ball trajectory. The combination of clifftop holes, uneven natural fairways, and strategically placed hazards puts a premium on accuracy and course management—especially in gusty conditions, where every shot must be carefully judged.

The Good

Golfers love the breathtaking clifftop setting, expansive sea views on every hole, and the sense of adventure that comes from playing near the Arctic Circle. The uniqueness of midnight golf draws travelers seeking memorable photos and an otherworldly golf experience unavailable almost anywhere else.

The Not So Good

Several visitors note basic issues with distance and directional signage, making it occasionally tough for first-timers to navigate. Expanded tee marker detail and additional on-course markings would make for a more beginner-friendly experience. The club could also further improve practice facilities to match the world-class setting.

Signature Hole:

#

9

No items found.

Hole 9 is a stunning par 3 set along the rocky cliffs, playing directly toward the Atlantic with the city skyline far in the distance. Exposed to the full force of Icelandic wind, golfers must judge both strength and direction carefully. The ocean and rugged coastline frame the green to produce a memorable and challenging tee shot.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Expect a scenic clubhouse perched above the course, offering food, drinks, and panoramic views. There's a pro shop for basic gear and souvenir shopping. Club rental and electric trolleys are available, but spa or locker facilities are minimal, prioritizing the natural setting and hospitality.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Brautarholt offers a putting green and chipping area, with rental clubs and trolleys available. Practice facilities are basic but well maintained. Players can expect a small, friendly pro shop and a clubhouse with restaurant and scenic views, but advanced range features are limited.
