Course Report
The site was once a buffalo pasture owned by the Conrad family, giving the club its distinctive name. The Championship 18 holds an annual Labor Day tournament and is the busiest course in the Flathead Valley.
About
Buffalo Hill Golf Club's Championship 18 is a historic Robert Muir Graves design located in Kalispell, Montana. Known for its tree-lined fairways and elevation changes, this public parkland course winds along the Stillwater River, offering memorable views of the Flathead Valley and Rocky Mountains. Since 1918, it has been a regional favorite and the centerpiece of the busiest club in northwest Montana.
Caddie Tip
Focus on accuracy over distance, especially off the tee, as several holes have narrow landing areas with overhanging trees. Pay attention to elevation changes when selecting your club, and watch for the Stillwater River which comes into play on multiple holes.
The Main Challenge
The toughest challenge at Buffalo Hill is managing the varying elevations and maintaining accuracy through the tree-lined corridors. Narrow approaches and doglegs require careful club selection and strategy, especially when the wind picks up through the valley.
The Good
Golfers love the stunning panoramic views of the Flathead Valley and the northwest Rocky Mountains, along with the historical, welcoming atmosphere and strategic layout. The blend of elevation changes and mature trees creates a unique and memorable experience for players of all levels.
The Not So Good
Some players note slow pace of play during peak summer months and limited tee-time availability due to popularity. Occasional maintenance interruptions have also been mentioned, and certain fairways can get soft or patchy after heavy rains.
