Course Report

The course’s bunkers are inspired by Dr. Alister MacKenzie’s camouflage style, offering both challenge and striking visual appeal.

About

CDA National Reserve is a private Tom Weiskopf-designed course set along the bluffs of Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, in 1,000 acres of pristine wilderness. The course features open front nine holes with generous fairways and a tighter, wooded back nine, with visual drama, strategic camouflage bunkering, and panoramic lake views, offering a first-class golf experience unique to northern Idaho.

Caddie Tip

Be mindful of the varying character between the nines; play more aggressively on the open front nine, but exercise caution and club selection on the tighter, tree-lined back. The slopes and the effect of elevation changes, especially near the lake vistas, can strongly affect club distances.

The Main Challenge

The toughest test lies in the course’s strategic bunkering and distinct shift between the open, forgiving front nine and the tighter, more punishing back nine. The elevation changes, especially approaching the greens, demand careful club selection and precise approach shots.

The Good

Most golfers love the stunning combination of forested terrain and panoramic lake views, as well as the dramatic design by Tom Weiskopf. The course’s variety, unique bunkering, and the memorable change in style between the front and back nine make for an unforgettable round.

The Not So Good

Some players note the back nine's tree-lined corridors can feel tight for less-accurate drivers, and pace of play may slow during busy member tournaments. Occasional feedback also mentions a desire for more year-round playable months given the seasonal weather in northern Idaho.
