Course Report

The club hosted the 1998 Eisenhower Trophy (World Amateur Team Championship) and was the original venue for the famous Copa los Andes amateur event.

About

Club de Golf Los Leones, founded in 1910 and redesigned multiple times by architects such as Eduardo Costabal, Bobby Muller, and Mackenzie & Ebert, is Santiago's most prestigious course. Nestled in the city's upscale Las Condes area with Andes Mountain vistas, the club features a fun, strategic parkland layout, luxurious amenities, and a vibrant social scene for its exclusive membership.

Caddie Tip

Pay special attention to the out of bounds that lines the right side of several holes, especially on the signature 4th, where precision off the tee is vital. Approach greens conservatively, as subtle undulations and firm conditions can quickly turn an easy par into a bogey. Locals often recommend playing safe rather than challenging every flag.

The Main Challenge

The course’s greatest challenge is its demand for shot placement, especially avoiding the ever-present out of bounds on key holes. Mature trees and protected greens add further complexity. The urban setting means strategy, not just power, is essential; players who drive wildly may find themselves blocked or penalized, especially on the inward nine.

The Good

Golfers rave about the vibrant club life, luxurious clubhouse and terrace dining overlooking the city, and a course layout that remains engaging, challenging, and fair. The scenery with the Andes as a backdrop and the cosmopolitan feel among mature trees in the heart of Santiago combine to create an atmosphere unlike any other in Chile.

The Not So Good

Some visitors and members note that the urban location results in traffic noise on outer holes and limited expansion options. Course conditioning, while generally strong, can be inconsistent depending on season and heavy play, and some feel practice facilities could benefit from modernization and increased capacity during peak times.

Signature Hole:

#

4

No items found.

The signature 4th hole is a par 5 stretching 560 yards, regarded among the world's top golf holes. Its straightforward look belies inherent difficulty, as out of bounds runs the full right side. Precision off the tee is crucial, and a single bunker and a large tree guard the green, demanding well-placed approach shots.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The expansive clubhouse offers fine dining, a popular terrace overlooking the course and city, modern locker rooms, pro shop, event spaces, a gym, swimming pool, and tennis courts. Service is high-touch, with attentive staff and an atmosphere suited to one of Latin America’s top private clubs.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Los Leones provides a driving range, putting and chipping areas, and practice bunkers. Facilities are well-maintained but can become crowded given the size of the membership. Instruction and junior programs are strong. The clubhouse features top-tier locker rooms, lounges, pro shop, multiple dining areas, a grand terrace with Andes views, plus fitness, swimming, and tennis amenities.
