Course Report

The course is the world’s first to be officially associated with the International Olympic Academy, and was designed to embrace Olympic values of excellence and respect within the sport of golf.

About

The International Olympic Academy Golf Course at Costa Navarino is a contemporary championship layout designed by José María Olazábal. Opened in 2022, it sits atop Navarino Hills with breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and Messinian countryside, featuring 18 holes that challenge all skill levels with striking bunkering, elevation changes, natural integration, and fast greens. The course combines athletic heritage with Greek natural beauty.

Caddie Tip

The wind can change dramatically across the ridge-top holes, particularly on the back nine. Trust local yardages, avoid aggressive lines on blind tee shots, and play for safe areas short of severe drop-offs. On firm, often fast greens, keeping your approach below the hole pays dividends, and club selection is crucial, especially late in the afternoon when the wind tends to rise.

The Main Challenge

The toughest aspect is negotiating the wind-swept, elevated holes where natural drop-offs and deep bunkers flank narrow landing zones. Many greens are well-protected and present tricky run-offs. The course rewards thoughtful navigation but punishes overly aggressive play—putting a premium on course management and recovery skills.

The Good

Golfers rave about the breathtaking vistas over Navarino Bay and the Ionian Sea that appear on nearly every hole, especially during sunset. The Olazábal-designed routing uses natural elevation to great effect, offering a memorable championship test in superb condition year-round, and an overall experience seamlessly integrated with the landscape of Greek history and culture.

The Not So Good

Some players note that the exposed location means winds can be unpredictable and create challenging conditions, particularly on the back nine. Others mention that the remote hillside setting requires shuttling from resort lodging and can add to travel time, and a few feel that bunker sand consistency varies in wet weather.

Signature Hole:

#

17

No items found.

The par 4 17th hole sweeps along a high ridge, delivering dramatic views over the Ionian Sea and surrounding hills. Its fairway narrows between natural landforms before a sharply bunkered green. Gusts of wind and strategic bunkers demand accuracy in both driving and approach, making this a memorable and scenic test late in the round.

Clubhouse

The Hills Clubhouse is a centerpiece itself, offering panoramic terrace views, sophisticated Greek and Mediterranean dining, luxury locker rooms, showers, lounges, and a pro shop with all essentials. After-golf relaxation includes indoor and outdoor sitting areas, local wines, and spa treatment access at the resort.

Practice Facilities
