Course Report
The course is named for the mature cottonwood trees that line the fairways and has served the local community for over 60 years as the go-to golf destination in Goshen County.
About
Cottonwood at Torrington is a classic, tree-lined public golf course in eastern Wyoming, featuring bentgrass greens and bluegrass roughs. Opened in 1959, it offers an enjoyable and relaxed layout that welcomes golfers of all skill levels. The design incorporates natural North Platte River landscapes and was laid out to provide both a fun and testing experience for the hometown and visiting golfer.
Caddie Tip
Keep your tee shots to the center, as numerous cottonwood trees can block approaches if you stray offline, especially on the tight back nine. Beware the slough water hazard running the length of the closing holes, and play conservatively to avoid big numbers. Fast, firm greens require a delicate touch. If it's windy, club up and play low trajectory shots.
The Main Challenge
The back nine presents the toughest test, as a slough (water hazard) runs the entire length and comes into play on several holes, demanding accuracy off the tee and on approach shots. Tree-lined fairways require shot placement, and swirling prairie winds can add challenge to approach play and putting.
The Good
Golfers appreciate the friendly small-town atmosphere, affordable green fees, and welcoming staff. The course layout offers good variety, with some holes bordered by the namesake cottonwood trees, and the scenic river valley surroundings offering a peaceful backdrop for a round. It’s a relaxed course where most players feel at home, regardless of handicap.
The Not So Good
During peak summer months, some players note rough patches or dry spots in the fairways, especially during periods of drought. Local feedback sometimes mentions slow pace on busy weekends and a lack of modern practice range features. Enhanced bunker conditioning and improved irrigation would further elevate the experience.
