Course Report

The course was designed to evoke essences of both Irish links and classic Vermont woodland golf, with the front and back nines offering distinctly different experiences within one property.

About

Country Club of Vermont is a private, Graham Cooke-designed 18-hole course nestled in the valley between the Worcester and Mansfield ranges. Combining links-style front nine and tree-lined back nine, it features bentgrass greens and scenic mountain views. Noted for immaculate conditioning, it is often ranked among Vermont's top layouts, blending challenge and beauty in an unhurried setting.

Caddie Tip

Approach play is key, especially with undulating greens and variable mountain winds. Rely on local knowledge for club selection—downhill putts are deceptively quick, and smart positioning in the fairway makes a noticeable difference to scoring given the strategic bunkering.

The Main Challenge

The biggest challenge is dealing with subtle elevation changes and unpredictable winds coming off the mountains, which can make club selection tricky and put a premium on accuracy. The undulating greens require careful positioning for approach shots and deft touch to avoid three-putts. Strategic bunkering protects many of the greens.

The Good

Golfers rave about the stunning setting featuring mountain views, pristine playing surfaces, and peaceful, uncrowded conditions. The dual character of the front and back nines gives variety, and many appreciate the feeling of seclusion and natural beauty throughout the layout, offering a true escape from busier, more commercial clubs.

The Not So Good

Feedback sometimes references strict guest policies and limited public access for non-members. While conditioning is generally excellent, wet conditions after rain can affect turf playability. A few golfers also wish for additional on-course rest stops or upgraded halfway house amenities.
