Course Report

Desert Canyon's arid, sunny location lets golfers play in dry conditions when much of the Pacific Northwest is wet, giving it a 'desert golf' flavor unique for Washington.

About

Desert Canyon Golf Resort, designed by Jack Frei, offers dramatic views of the Columbia River Valley and surrounding mountains. The course features five sets of tees for all skill levels, a demanding layout integrated with natural terrain, and exceptional playability amid a tranquil setting. Ranked among the state’s best public courses, it is celebrated for its vistas, strategic holes, and friendly, upscale feel.

Caddie Tip

Aim for the generous landing areas and avoid trouble by steering clear of deep canyon edges. The prevailing wind impacts shots, especially on exposed holes, so consider clubbing up when approaching elevated greens, and be precise around fast, undulating putting surfaces. The back nine can play even tougher if winds pick up in the afternoon.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge lies in the bold elevation changes and exposed terrain. Errant shots risk steep drop-offs into canyons, and brisk afternoon winds can turn the back nine into a tough test. The small, firm greens reward well-struck approaches but can be punishing for misses, while long par 4s require accuracy and length off the tee.

The Good

Golfers rave about the stunning panoramic views sweeping over the Columbia River and surrounding canyons. Desert Canyon’s open, scenic routing offers a peaceful and uncrowded golf experience that rivals the best in the Northwest. The striking elevation changes and variety of shot values make every round memorable, while friendly service and an unpretentious setting add genuine hospitality.

The Not So Good

Some golfers note that portions of the course can become quite firm and dry in late summer, occasionally leading to bare or hard spots. There can be challenging cart paths and steep climbs, and a few players find the remote location limits dining or après-golf amenities, making it less lively than more destination resorts.

Signature Hole:

#

6

No items found.

The par 5 6th hole is the signature at Desert Canyon. This dramatic hole plunges downhill, bordered by canyons, providing panoramic river and mountain views. The green sits on a narrow ledge, demanding precision on the approach and rewarding bold drives with a chance to go for the green in two. It's both breathtaking and challenging, making for an unforgettable experience.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The clubhouse offers a pro shop, Oasis Mesquite Grill restaurant with expansive patio seating and course views, locker facilities, and comfortable lounge areas. Lodging, mountain-view suites, on-site pools, and event spaces round out the full resort experience for both golfers and non-golfers.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Desert Canyon provides a full driving range, large putting green, and short game area. Players can warm up with multiple targets, hone bunker play, and use rental clubs. The pro shop is well-stocked with equipment and apparel. On-site instructors are available for lessons during the main season.
