Course Report

The Majlis was the first all-grass golf course in the Middle East and is home to the iconic Dubai Desert Classic, making it a pioneering venue for championship golf in the region.

About

Emirates Golf Club's Majlis Course, designed by Karl Litten and inaugurated in 1988, is the UAE’s original championship layout. Routed through natural desert dunes, it features lush fairways, seven lakes, and showcases Dubai’s skyline. Known for hosting the DP World Tour, the Majlis offers a strategic, memorable challenge and is widely regarded for its conditioning and architectural significance.

Caddie Tip

Choose your tees wisely, as the back tees are exceptionally challenging. Keep tee shots accurate—off-line drives are severely punished, and staying in the fairway is essential. On the 8th, commit to your line, and be prepared for slick, subtly contoured greens that reward smart lag putting.

The Main Challenge

The course's greatest challenge is its penal rough and ambitious bunkering. Just a few yards off the fairway puts golfers in tough desert sand or thick native grass. Accurate drives and course management are essential, especially as slick greens and water hazards come into play throughout the back nine.

The Good

Golfers praise the Majlis for its stunning contrast between verdant fairways and natural desert flora set against Dubai’s modern skyline. The variety in hole design and strategic water features make for an unforgettable championship experience, with immaculate conditions and tournament history adding to its allure.

The Not So Good

Many players feel summer maintenance and heat occasionally impact turf quality, and weekend pace can be moderate to slow during peak season. Some suggest the course could benefit from more shaded rest spots and improved signage for first-time players navigating the routing.
