Course Report

Nearly all 27 holes at Föhr are built on seaside sandy soil, making it one of the most links-like courses in northern Germany despite its forested sections.

About

Golf Club Föhr e.V. is a 27-hole public course located on the scenic North Sea island of Föhr in Schleswig-Holstein. Originally established in 1925, the course has undergone major redesigns by Christian Althaus and Christoph Staedler. Known for its sandy soil, challenging greens, and beautiful coastal setting, Föhr offers a unique blend of links and parkland features along with robust practice facilities and a welcoming clubhouse.

Caddie Tip

Pay close attention to the wind direction, which can change quickly due to proximity to the North Sea. Approach shots must be precise, as undulating greens reward creativity and punish marginal shots. On the Blue course especially, favor conservative targets and avoid getting short-sided.

The Main Challenge

The course's greatest challenge is navigating its elevated, undulated greens in varying wind conditions. Approach shots require precision and good judgment, especially on the exposed links holes. The strategic bunkering and mix of open and tree-lined fairways demand smart decision-making and steady nerves throughout the round.

The Good

Golfers rave about the imaginative green complexes and the seamless routing that blends sandy, links-style holes with picturesque wooded transitions. The coastal breeze and undulation make every round feel different, and regulars appreciate the course's strategic shotmaking demands in a uniquely German setting.

The Not So Good

Some players find the transition between the original parkland holes and the newer links-like layouts slightly jarring; the contrast in terrain and green construction can disrupt the flow. Dense trees at certain boundaries can narrow play and slightly restrict vistas compared to the open duneland holes.
