About

Golf Club Patriziale Ascona is one of Switzerland’s premier parkland courses, established in 1928 and updated by Charles Kenneth Cotton. Set on the banks of Lake Maggiore amidst mature trees and a tranquil setting, the flat yet strategic 18-hole course offers an attractive blend of beauty and technical challenge. Renowned for its conditioning, facilities, and scenic views, it welcomes golfers year-round.

Caddie Tip

Many fairways are lined closely by tall old-growth trees, so accuracy off the tee is critical—prioritize placement over distance and beware of doglegs. Expect slick, subtle greens—check approach angles before attacking pins, as approach shots can quickly run off if misjudged.

The Main Challenge

The most demanding aspect of the course is the requirement for precise placement due to mature tree-lined fairways and tactical doglegs. Water hazards come into play on select holes, and small, undulating greens demand excellent short game control. Par is well defended by the strategic layout.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the natural beauty and tranquility, with mature trees, flat walkable routing, and stunning views of Lake Maggiore. The setting is serene and the blend of parkland and lakeside scenery—alongside excellent course maintenance—ensures a memorable and relaxing round for most players.

The Not So Good

Golfers cite the flat routing as occasionally lacking dramatic elevation changes, which can create a sense of similarity between holes. Some guests also wish for increased public access or fewer play restrictions for international visitors, as the course can be exclusive during busy times.
