Course Report

The course hosted the 2007 Solheim Cup, a premier women’s team event, showcasing its international pedigree and championship-level challenge.

About

Halmstad Golf Club (North Course) is a prestigious Swedish parkland layout set in tall pine and birch woodland near Tylösand. Originally established in 1935 and redesigned in 1967 by Niels Sköld, the course is revered for its undulating terrain, strategic bunkering, and immaculate greens. It has hosted major events including the 2007 Solheim Cup.

Caddie Tip

Pay special attention to your approaches, as the greens are large but well-bunkered and often elevated, making distance control crucial. Beware swirling winds from the sea near holes 14–16, and be strategic off the tee—avoid tempting doglegs without a clear landing area.

The Main Challenge

The North Course is a demanding test, with tight, tree-lined fairways and deep bunkering punishing loose shots. The back nine’s closing stretch, especially holes 14–18, requires accuracy and nerve—water hazards and complex greens test every part of your game.

The Good

Golfers love the blend of strategic hole designs and natural woodland beauty, with each hole feeling isolated and unique. The immaculate greens and fairways, challenging layout, and tournament-level conditioning consistently receive top praise, making every round both memorable and fair.

The Not So Good

Some players find the routing between certain holes a bit confusing and would appreciate improved on-course signage. At peak times, the popularity and challenging setup can make for lengthy rounds, and access for non-members is quite limited.

Signature Hole:

#

16

No items found.

The 16th hole is a stunning par 3, measuring about 164 meters, requiring a tee shot over a menacing brook which protects the front and right of the green, framed by tall mature trees. Widely considered one of Sweden’s best holes, the challenge comes from both the crossing water hazard and subtle green contours.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The stylish clubhouse offers a full restaurant and bar, locker rooms, pro shop, and lounge. Views across the course are available from the terrace, and meeting or event spaces can be booked. Hospitality is a point of pride, reflecting the course's prestige.

Practice Facilities

Extensive practice amenities include a modern driving range, large short game area, multiple putting greens, and well-kept bunkers. Facilities are designed to provide full warm-up and coaching opportunities to members and guests, with covered and grass bays.
