About

Hermitage Golf Course - President's Reserve in Nashville, designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in 2000, features 18 championship holes blending wetlands and wooded areas along the Cumberland River. The par-72 layout is praised for its scenery and challenging design. The facility boasts excellent amenities, practice areas, and is often regarded as Tennessee's top public course.

Caddie Tip

Stay conservative off the tee on the early holes, as trouble lurks in the extensive wetlands and water hazards, particularly on the back nine. Pay close attention to pin positions on the undulating Bentgrass greens, and take extra club when approaching holes with river or marsh carries.

The Main Challenge

Water hazards and extensive bunkering provide the key challenges, especially on the back nine as the Cumberland River and wetland stretches come into play. Risk-reward decisions abound, with accuracy and shot placement required to avoid costly penalties. The closing holes test nerves and course management skills.

The Good

The scenery and natural setting along the Cumberland River are frequently mentioned as the most memorable aspects, with several holes running close to the water, abundant wildlife, and peaceful views, offering a tranquil yet stimulating experience that stands out among public courses in Tennessee.

The Not So Good

Players sometimes comment on variable pace of play during peak times and would appreciate expanded marshaling on busy weekends. Some note that sections of the course may get soggy after heavy rains, raising interest in further drainage improvements.
