About

He is one of the very few American golf course architects to have designed a course at St. Andrews, Scotland, the birthplace of golf.

Denis Griffiths is a renowned American golf course architect with a career spanning over five decades. An Iowa native, he earned his degree in Landscape Architecture from Iowa State University in 1970 and began his professional journey in Atlanta with the firm Davis, Kirby & Player, Inc. Griffiths later acquired the company, founding Denis Griffiths & Associates. He has designed or renovated more than 150 golf courses worldwide, with a particular focus on integrating courses seamlessly into their natural surroundings. Notably, Griffiths is one of only a few American architects to have designed a course in St. Andrews, Scotland—the birthplace of golf. His work ranges from acclaimed resort designs, such as Brasstown Valley and the Georgia Club in Georgia, to internationally recognized venues like the Thai Country Club. As a past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, Griffiths is celebrated for his innovative, pragmatic approach and his significant influence on municipal, resort, and international golf course design.
