Course Report

Pole Creek is one of only a handful of 27-hole courses in Colorado and offers free cross-country skiing on its fairways during winter months.

About

Pole Creek Golf Club, designed by Denis Griffiths, is a classic Colorado mountain course offering 27 holes across three distinct nines: the Ranch, Meadow, and Ridge. With dramatic elevation changes, fast greens, and panoramic alpine views, it provides a challenging yet rewarding golf experience at high altitude. Consistently ranked among Colorado’s best public mountain courses.

Caddie Tip

At over 8,600 feet above sea level, club selection is critical as shots fly farther. Take advantage of the generous fairways but be cautious with approach shots—mountain winds and quick greens demand a deft touch. Pay close attention to pin placements, especially on the Ridge nine, and always check yardages due to elevation changes.

The Main Challenge

The biggest challenge at Pole Creek lies in managing the significant elevation changes and reading fast, contoured greens. The Ridge nine is especially tough, with dramatic uphill and downhill shots and swirling mountain winds. Accurate distance control is essential, as is maintaining focus through transitions between the three distinct nines.

The Good

Golfers rave about the breathtaking alpine scenery and the variety among the three nine-hole layouts. The Ridge nine, in particular, offers spectacular mountain vistas and challenging elevation changes. The combination of natural beauty, wildlife sightings, and crisp mountain air creates a uniquely memorable round and a true Colorado golf experience.

The Not So Good

Some visitors comment that service in the pro shop and restaurant can feel rushed during busy weekends and peak summer dates. Slow play may occur as the course is popular and offers 27 holes, sometimes leading to delays at transition points between nines. Better pace management and improved clubhouse hospitality are occasionally requested.
