Course Report

Jack's Point sits on land that was once a sheep station, and the design intentionally preserves native tussock, schist outcrops, and natural land movement for an authentic New Zealand alpine feel.

About

Jack's Point Golf Course, designed by John Darby, offers one of the world's most spectacular visual golf experiences. Set among tussock grasslands and rock outcrops at the foot of The Remarkables and overlooking Lake Wakatipu, this championship-caliber course delivers a challenging yet memorable round for golfers of all abilities. Frequently ranked New Zealand's top South Island layout.

Caddie Tip

Accuracy off the tee is critical—native grasses and rocky gullies punish wayward drives. Watch for deceptive wind off Lake Wakatipu, especially on elevated holes. On the short par 4s, carefully choose whether to lay up or attack, since cliffs and water frame multiple landing zones. Greens run true but can be fast, so favor below-the-hole approaches when possible.

The Main Challenge

Jack's Point’s greatest test is its constant use of natural hazards: carries over rocky canyons, native grass roughs penalizing missed fairways, swirling winds, and frequent elevation changes make each shot demanding. Strategic bunkering and fast, sloping greens put an additional premium on accurate approach play and savvy course management.

The Good

Golfers rave about the breathtaking vistas of Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables, with every hole offering new and dramatic scenery. The routing creatively uses natural terrain and elevation changes, resulting in a thrill ride with remarkable photographic opportunities and memorable shot values on nearly every swing.

The Not So Good

Some visitors note that slow play can be a recurring issue, particularly due to high cart traffic and the difficult layout which can challenge less experienced players. A few wish the course had more holes directly along the lakeshore and that development near the property be minimized to preserve the untouched natural feel.

Signature Hole:

6
