Course Report

At 7,220 feet, Jacoby Golf Club is among the highest elevation golf courses in the United States and the highest in the Mountain West Conference.

About

Jacoby Golf Club, designed and operated by the University of Wyoming, is a public 18-hole course set at 7,220 feet above sea level with scenic views of the Snowy Range. Built in 1972, it is home to UW's men’s and women’s teams and is known for its well-kept fairways, challenge at elevation, and friendly atmosphere.

Caddie Tip

Take plenty of club on all approach shots as the high elevation often deceives the eye; the ball flies farther but wind gusts and drier air can dramatically affect spin and trajectory. Greens are subtle and usually fast—focus on pace putting with attention to the mountain’s pull.

The Main Challenge

The biggest challenge is navigating sudden wind gusts that can demand constant club adjustments, particularly on exposed holes. Thin air at high elevation changes how the ball flies, and several newly added ponds introduce water hazards on six holes, increasing the course's strategic demands.

The Good

Golfers frequently praise the spectacular mountain backdrop and the thrill of playing at such high elevation, where the ball travels farther and the weather can shift rapidly. The course’s friendly staff and the welcoming, collegiate atmosphere make it a favorite for both locals and visitors.

The Not So Good

Many players note that while the course is generally well maintained, the greens can occasionally become inconsistent late in the season due to harsh Wyoming weather. Others would like to see improvements to bunker conditioning and modernization of on-course amenities.
