Course Report
Kennemer Golf & Country Club has hosted the Dutch Open 23 times, making it one of the Netherlands’ top championship venues.
About
Kennemer Golf & Country Club is a historic links course founded in 1910, with a Harry Colt design from 1928 and three distinctive nines. Set in coastal dunes near Zandvoort, it features firm turf, prevailing winds, and natural terrain. The Dutch Open has been played here more than 20 times, making it one of the most storied venues in the Netherlands.
Caddie Tip
Embrace the wind—club selection is critical throughout the course, particularly on open holes close to the sea. Be cautious of thick rough when the wind is up, and target the center of firm, fast greens. Strategic bunker play is advised, especially on the signature 12th where a long approach past the fairway bunker can leave a perfect run onto the green.
The Main Challenge
Prevailing high winds and dense rough make club selection and accuracy paramount, especially on exposed holes. Bunkers have been expanded and deepened, demanding precise placement off the tee and thoughtful approaches. The vast, undulating greens offer subtle breaks and severe slopes that challenge even top-level putters.
The Good
The natural links terrain and firm, fast fescue turf deliver a pure golf experience. Golfers love the Harry Colt routing with loops that capture the beauty and challenge of Dutch coastal dunes. Wind and strategic bunkering bring true variety to every round, with panoramic views and a historic atmosphere in the classic 1928 clubhouse.
The Not So Good
Greens may vary in condition due to strict environmental regulations and ongoing adaptation to pesticide-free maintenance. Players sometimes mention bunker renovations still in progress and wish for more consistent green speeds, especially in spring when the weather is variable.
Signature Hole:
#
12
Hole 12 is a par 5 playing about 550 yards, notable for its straight layout and strategic bunkering forty yards short of a green that rewards a bold long approach. Prevailing winds often assist, making this downwind hole both challenging and inviting for players aiming to reach the green in two.
Clubhouse
Historic 1928 clubhouse with panoramic views offers full-service restaurant and bar, changing rooms, showers, locker facilities, and a warm atmosphere. The club has lounges, pro shop, event spaces, and a terrace with outdoor seating overlooking the course.
Practice Facilities
Comprehensive practice areas include a multi-bay driving range and short-game facility, open from early morning until late evening. The putting green is maintained to reflect on-course speeds, and there is ample space for players to warm up ahead of rounds.
