Course Report

La Serena Golf Club is the only seaside golf course in all of Chile, with its closing holes directly overlooking the beach.

About

La Serena Golf Club, designed by Kelly Blake Moran, is Chile’s only true seaside links, with fairways running among natural sand dunes near the Pacific. Opened in 2001, it features wide, undulating fairways, lightly bunkered greens, and stunning ocean views from the finishing holes. Its strategic and minimalist design creates a memorable golfing adventure.

Caddie Tip

Embrace bump-and-run shots throughout the course, as the fairways run firm and fast over natural dunes. Watch for ocean breezes, which affect club selection, especially late in the round. On the 18th, consider aiming left for safety when winds blow off the Pacific.

The Main Challenge

The main challenge at La Serena comes from the coastal winds, firm running fairways, and natural dunes that threaten errant shots. Water hazards come into play on 16 holes, and strategic bunkering demands smart club selection, especially on risk/reward par 4s near the finish.

The Good

Golfers love La Serena’s authentic links experience, especially the natural routing through sand dunes, strategic design, and the dramatic ocean views from the closing holes. The course offers outstanding variety and challenge, making each round memorable and uniquely enjoyable.

The Not So Good

Players sometimes complain about patchy turf conditions in drought years and occasional wind exposure, especially late afternoons. Some find bunkers inconsistent in texture and wish for improvements to drainage and irrigation in low-lying areas.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The par 4 18th hole is the club’s dramatic finisher, playing alongside the Pacific Ocean. Golfers face several options off the tee—carry the dunes near the water for a short approach, or play safe and contend with more challenging terrain for the second shot. The green is accessible, offering risk/reward for bold play.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Clubhouse features include locker rooms, restaurant and bar, large outdoor terrace, pro shop, and event facility space. After your round, relax with local cuisine or ocean views, and enjoy access to tennis courts, football pitches, and sometimes resort-style pools.
