Course Report
Manchester Country Club has hosted 48 National, Regional, and State Championships, showcasing its stature in New England golf.
About
Manchester Country Club in Bedford, New Hampshire is a classic Donald Ross design established in 1923. Updated by Ron Forse, it boasts strategic undulating greens, tree-lined fairways, and a championship pedigree, having hosted major regional events. The 18-hole parkland layout, set on 116 acres, blends historic character with modern playability and excellent conditions.
Caddie Tip
Pay close attention to approach shots into the greens—the undulating, classic Donald Ross surfaces can funnel balls away from the hole or leave tricky putts. Keeping your ball below the hole is critical, and don't underestimate risk around the bunkers and water hazards, especially on the back nine.
The Main Challenge
The greatest challenge is handling the classic Donald Ross greens, which are fast, firm, and contoured to punish imprecise approach shots or aggressive putts. Several long par 4s, like the 17th, and hazards such as water and cross bunkers, intensify the difficulty.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise the classic Donald Ross design, especially the strategic greens, excellent playability, and intimate routing of the course. The well-preserved historic charm, updates by Ron Forse honoring Ross’s intent, and strong tournament credentials make the course a favorite among members and guests alike.
The Not So Good
Some players note that play can become slow during peak times, especially when the club accommodates large events or multiple outings. Others have remarked that the wooded layout might benefit from additional tree management to improve airflow and sightlines in certain areas.
Signature Hole:
#
17
The 17th hole is a formidable par 4, stretching 453 yards from the back tees. Its left side is guarded by a lakeside hazard, forcing a precise tee shot on a tough approach to a challenging green. This dramatic, visually distinct hole demands both accuracy and length to have a chance at par or better.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse features a well-stocked pro shop, upscale locker rooms, banquet and event rooms, a full-service restaurant, lounges, and outdoor gathering spaces, all designed for comfort and premium member experiences.
Practice Facilities
Facilities include a full-length driving range, a dedicated short-game area, a large putting green, and an on-site indoor golf simulator for all-weather practice.
