Course Report

Manele Golf Course incorporates the Pacific Ocean as an active hazard on three holes and is built atop centuries-old lava flows.

About

Perched on dramatic cliffs above Hulopoe Bay, Manele Golf Course at Four Seasons Resort Lanai was designed by Jack Nicklaus. The course weaves across lava outcrops, with Pacific Ocean views from every hole. Three holes play along cliffs, and every round features the lush beauty, strategic routing, and luxury service that has made it one of Hawaii’s top resort courses.

Caddie Tip

Pay special attention to the wind and elevation changes throughout the round. Approach shots often play shorter than their yardage thanks to downhill slopes, but the ocean breeze can quickly change conditions and affect ball flight. Stay below the hole on approach shots to avoid tricky putts on the fast, true greens.

The Main Challenge

The biggest challenge at Manele is the ever-present Pacific winds and forced carries over cliffs and ravines, especially on the cliffside holes. Golfers must carefully manage distance, trajectory, and shot shape, as even well-struck balls can be punished by unpredictable gusts or the intimidating visuals of lava and ocean.

The Good

Golfers rave about the sheer beauty and drama of the course layout—every hole offers spectacular blue ocean views, and three holes are perched directly on the cliffs above the Pacific. The service, conditioning, and unique resort exclusivity create a memorable, luxurious golf experience in a stunning Hawaiian setting.

The Not So Good

The remote island location means pace of play can slow during busy resort periods and maintenance windows can occasionally impact conditions. The greens, while excellent, can be very quick, making play challenging for high-handicap or less experienced golfers—some wish for more tee time flexibility for day visitors.

Signature Hole:

#

12

No items found.

The par-3 12th hole is one of Hawaii’s most photographed and dramatic, playing across a deep ocean cliff to a green perched on the edge of the Pacific. Club selection and wind judgment are key, and missing left is not an option—shots that come up short tumble 150 feet to black volcanic rock and crashing surf below.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The clubhouse offers ocean-view dining, premium locker rooms, and a fully stocked pro shop. Complimentary refreshments and snacks are available to players, and service is attentive throughout your visit. Resort guests can also access spa, pools, and other Four Seasons amenities before or after golf.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

You’ll find a modern driving range, large putting green, and short-game practice area. Complimentary range balls and modern GPS-enabled golf carts are included. Club rentals feature high-end sets, and the pro shop is stocked with top equipment and apparel.
