Course Report
The course famously features a tunnel players ride through on a golf cart, and a suspension bridge over a steep canyon for the signature 10th hole.
About
Bel-Air Country Club is an exclusive private club in Los Angeles, featuring a George C. Thomas-designed 18-hole course routed ingeniously through four canyons. The course, founded in 1925 and later renovated by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is renowned for its unique terrain, architectural pedigree, and history as home course to the UCLA Bruins teams.
Caddie Tip
Pay attention to elevation changes and swirling canyon winds, especially off the tee on par-3s. Approach shots require precise yardages, and greens are quick with subtle breaks. Conservative play pays off on narrow holes where errant shots easily find trouble.
The Main Challenge
Bel-Air’s greatest challenge is its elevation changes and narrow, canyon-lined fairways, requiring precision on every shot. The greens are slick and well-contoured, making recovery and putting a test even for skilled players. Errant shots can find deep trouble, amplifying mental pressure.
The Good
Golfers love the stunning and inventive routing through canyon terrain, paired with world-class architectural features and setting. The historic aura, superb conditioning, and sense of exclusivity create a unique, memorable golf experience cherished by members and their guests.
The Not So Good
Access is highly restricted, making it nearly impossible for non-members to play. Some golfers also mention the course’s tight, unusual routing through the canyons results in a few awkward transitions and occasional pace-of-play challenges given the unique topography.
Signature Hole:
#
10
