Course Report

Ohoopee features a secondary 'Whiskey Run' routing with a bottle of Woodford Reserve hidden on the course for players to toast before their round.

About

Ohoopee Match Club is a private, members-only retreat in rural Georgia, designed by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner in 2018. Laid out across sandy soils and native terrain, the course is crafted for match play, featuring creative routing and risk-reward holes set within over 2,500 acres of serene woodland.

Caddie Tip

Aggression is often rewarded, but the sandy, firm terrain demands precise control. Many greens have distinct tiers or 'greens within greens'—aim for the proper section to avoid tough two-putts, and don’t be afraid to use the ground for creative recovery shots. Careful study of pin locations is essential.

The Main Challenge

Ohoopee’s biggest challenge comes from its demanding green complexes and strategic bunkering. Many holes call for risk-reward decisions off the tee, while approach shots must be precisely placed to the correct section of multi-tiered greens. Recovery shots from waste areas test creativity and nerve.

The Good

Members and guests rave about the match play-centric design that encourages bold shotmaking and tactical thinking. The sandy soils allow for running shots, and the setting offers genuine seclusion and quiet, making every round both memorable and intensely enjoyable.

The Not So Good

The club’s extreme privacy and exclusivity mean very few have the opportunity to experience it. Some golfers have noted that the absence of stroke play-specific yardage options or a more traditional championship length can be limiting for certain preferences.

Signature Hole:

#

14

No items found.

The 14th is a par 4 that typifies Ohoopee's bold risk-reward philosophy. With a tempting drive that dares players to take on bunkers and use the contours to reach the green, aggressive play can be rewarded or harshly penalized, making it a highlight of the match play experience.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The understated, elegant clubhouse includes locker rooms, dining with locally sourced cuisine, well-appointed lounges, and attentive concierge service. Accommodations for overnight guests and low-key social spaces complete the retreat experience.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Ohoopee offers a comprehensive practice area with spacious driving range, short game area, and multiple greens that mirror the course’s challenging contours. Facilities are designed for serious warmup and skill work, with attentive staff support.
