Jim Wagner is an acclaimed golf course architect with over 25 years of experience, renowned for his innovative approach and commitment to classic design principles. Beginning his career in Massachusetts, where he was inspired by the region’s rugged golf landscapes, Wagner honed his skills through hands-on experience at Springfield Country Club and formal training at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst. After an early stint in Bob Cupp’s office, Wagner dedicated over two decades to Nicklaus Design, leading major projects across Asia including establishing a Hong Kong office and later one in Manila, the Philippines. Notable for his contributions to golf in China and Vietnam, Wagner has designed and renovated celebrated courses such as Heshan Golf Club and BRG Legend Hill Golf Resort. In 2024, he partnered with Brian Curley to form Curley-Wagner Golf Design, expanding his influence in the Asian market. Wagner's work is marked by a strong respect for tradition, thoughtful adaptation to site conditions, and a clear vision for the future of golf course architecture.
