Course Report
Metairie’s original layout was composed entirely of replica holes modeled after notable Scottish and American courses, a rare and creative approach that celebrates golf history.
About
Metairie Country Club, established in 1922 and originally designed by Seth Raynor, stands out for its replica holes inspired by Scottish and American classics. The private club features 18 holes, plays to a par 72 at just over 6,500 yards, and utilizes Latitude 36 Bermuda grass. Known for its elegance, Metairie provides challenging yet friendly golf and exceptional member amenities.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively off the tee on several shorter par 4s, as Raynor’s bunkering and doglegs can make aggressive lines risky. Approaches are often better left below the hole due to the subtly contoured Bermuda greens, which can be slick and fast during dry spells.
The Main Challenge
Strategically-placed bunkers and sharp doglegs create nuanced shot values, especially with variable winds. The small, elevated greens reward accurate iron play but can be punishing for off-target approaches. Fast Bermuda surfaces emphasize putting touch and green-reading skills.
The Good
Golfers rave about the strategic charm of the Seth Raynor design, especially the variety of replica holes that deliver different challenges on each round. Members appreciate the club’s classic ambiance, attentive service, and well-maintained grounds that make playing here feel both timeless and special.
The Not So Good
Some members would like to see bunkers renovated to restore sharper edges for authenticity, and improved drainage in lower-lying fairways, which can get soggy after heavy rain. Play can also be interrupted by wet conditions, occasionally slowing pace.
