Course Report

Billed as the 'world’s northernmost 36-hole golf facility,' Moose Run offers mountain views and regular wildlife sightings, providing golfers with a uniquely Alaskan round.

About

Moose Run Hill Course, situated at the foot of Alaska’s Chugach Mountains, is part of the world’s northernmost 36-hole golf facility. Established in 1952 by US Army Combat Engineers, the Hill features classic parkland design and dramatic elevation changes. Known for its scenic beauty and challenging routing, Moose Run is open to military and civilian golfers and offers a truly unique Alaskan golfing experience.

Caddie Tip

Errant shots can quickly get lost in the dense rough and surrounding wilderness, so be conservative off the tee on tight holes. Pay attention to elevation changes and unpredictable mountain winds, and keep extra balls handy—losing them in the woods or tall grass is common. When in doubt, club up.

The Main Challenge

Players are most challenged by tight tree-lined fairways, frequent elevation changes, and sloped greens. Strategic shot placement is essential, as errant drives can easily find dense woods or out-of-bounds. The variable mountain weather and wind make club selection tricky, increasing the test of accuracy and patience.

The Good

Golfers love the setting amid Alaskan wilderness and the panoramic Chugach Mountain views. The course’s tranquil atmosphere, wildlife sightings, and proximity to Anchorage make it a memorable play for locals and visitors alike. The long daylight hours in summer provide the chance for leisurely rounds at almost any time of day.

The Not So Good

Golfers frequently mention that bunker rakes and water in ball washers are sometimes missing, and that upkeep of sand traps can be inconsistent. More up-to-date GPS functionality in carts would improve the experience. Noise from nearby helicopters on the back nine can detract from the otherwise peaceful setting.
