Course Report

The Mount Washington Course has been voted Golfweek's Best Course You Can Play in New Hampshire every year since 2009.

About

Mount Washington Resort's Mount Washington Course is a classic 18-hole, par 72 layout designed by renowned architect Donald Ross and opened in 1915. Nestled beside New Hampshire's Presidential Mountain Range, this course features a traditional Ross design ethos with forgiving fairways, subtle elevation changes, and challenging greens. It has hosted several prestigious regional championships and is repeatedly ranked among New Hampshire's top courses.

Caddie Tip

Stay below the hole on approaches, as the classic Donald Ross greens are notably quick and can be treacherous if you're above the cup. Take time to read breaks carefully, especially on putts above the hole, and don't be afraid to use a conservative line off the tee to avoid tricky lies.

The Main Challenge

The most challenging aspect is the set of undulating greens, true to Donald Ross’s philosophy, where positioning and approach angles are critical. Subtle breaks and fast surfaces make putting especially demanding. The wind coming off the surrounding mountains can further complicate club selection and shot execution on exposed holes.

The Good

Golfers rave about the spectacular mountain views from nearly every hole, particularly with the majestic Mount Washington as a backdrop. The combination of historic design, natural beauty, and subtle challenge in the greens creates a truly memorable round for both avid and casual golfers.

The Not So Good

Some players mention pace of play can be slow during peak times, especially on weekends. Occasional reports highlight course congestion and maintenance lag in late season. The resort’s remote location means food and beverage options are mostly onsite and may be expensive relative to casual public courses.
