Course Report

Preston Trail is legendary for its exclusivity: famed as Dallas' most private club, it once counted several U.S. Presidents among its members and maintains a rare 'men only' membership policy.

About

Preston Trail Golf Club is an exclusive, private Dallas course founded in 1965 and designed by Ralph Plummer with input from Byron Nelson. The par-72, 7091-yard parkland layout features Bentgrass greens and Bermuda fairways meandering along White Rock Creek, demanding both strategic shotmaking and accuracy.

Caddie Tip

Preston Trail punishes missed fairways with thick rough and strategically placed trees. Play conservative off the tee when in doubt, and use local knowledge to handle subtle Bentgrass greens. Approach shots should favor the middle of greens to avoid tricky up-and-downs, especially on the lengthy back nine.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Preston Trail is threading precision drives through mature trees and managing approach shots to fast, undulating greens. The White Rock Creek comes into play on multiple holes, penalizing the overly aggressive and rewarding those who manage club selection and angles carefully.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise both the pristine Bentgrass greens, among the best in Texas, and the overall ambiance and service. The tranquility, seclusion, and mature tree-lined fairways create a singularly peaceful and exclusive golf experience in busy Dallas.

The Not So Good

Some members note that heavy rainfall can impact course conditioning, and drainage improvements have been mentioned as desirable. Additionally, occasional slow play has been cited during peak hours, with some calling for tighter pace enforcement in member groups.
