Course Report
Tiger Woods won his third consecutive U.S. Amateur Championship at Witch Hollow in 1996, cementing both his and the course’s place in golf history.
About
Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge, designed by renowned architect Bob Cupp, is a private, par-72 layout weaving through fir, maple, oak, and ash trees with views of the Tualatin Hills. Opened in 1992, it's acclaimed for imaginative routing, pristine conditions, and a championship pedigree, having hosted multiple majors and elite amateur events.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively from the tee, as fairways feature subtle cambers and several well-placed bunkers. Approach shots require precise distance control, especially to the sloping greens. Pay close attention to surrounding water hazards, especially on the back nine, and always favor the center of the green to minimize short-siding.
The Main Challenge
Witch Hollow’s greatest challenge is its long, demanding par 4s and the constant threat posed by water hazards and tall native grass. Precision off the tee and a sharp approach game are essential, while greenside recovery shots require deft touch. The course punishes indecision and often demands area-specific knowledge to avoid big numbers.
The Good
Members and guests prize the strategic shotmaking required, with each hole offering distinctive risk-reward decisions and world-class greens complexes. The course’s beauty, tranquility, and exceptional routing through native forest provide a memorable, immersive experience representative of classic Northwest golf.
The Not So Good
Some golfers wish for a more active on-course staff presence, with occasional reports of lackluster service during busy events. Wet conditions in the rainy months can sometimes impact fairway playability, and the difficulty may prove punishing for higher handicappers, limiting its approachability for some golfers.
Signature Hole:
#

With a tee shot demanding both distance and accuracy, subtle fairway slopes and a well-guarded, contoured green, the hole epitomizes the course’s risk-reward nature and spectacular closing drama.
