Course Report

The Oconee Course shares its lakeside property with the Ritz-Carlton and features holes that hug the Lake Oconee shoreline for 6,700 feet, making for some of Georgia's most scenic golf views.

About

Set along Lake Oconee, this Rees Jones-designed course blends picturesque waterfront holes with risk-reward opportunities, tree-lined doglegs, and creative shotmaking. Built in 2002, it is part of the elite Reynolds Lake Oconee resort, recognized for its immaculate conditioning and hospitality. Golfers appreciate challenging play and top-tier amenities at one of Georgia’s most sought-after golf destinations.

Caddie Tip

Position yourself favorably off the tee to set up manageable approaches, especially on holes bordering water. Avoid aggressive lines on doglegs unless confident with your carry distances, and favor the safe side of green complexes to steer clear of tricky collection areas. Play for the center on par 3s; swirling winds off the lake can deceive yardages.

The Main Challenge

Water comes into play on several key holes, especially on the closing stretch. Tight approach angles, heavily bunkered greens, and subtle undulations challenge shotmaking and short game skills. Wind off the lake can subtly influence both club selection and direction, raising the difficulty for those unfamiliar with the setting.

The Good

Golfers love the scenic lakefront holes and the variety of strategic options presented by the risk/reward layout. Exceptional conditions, striking lake views on finishing holes, and attentive service make the experience memorable for all skill levels. The tranquil setting and integration with Georgia woodlands add to the serene ambiance.

The Not So Good

Some players note the course can play soft after rainfall, leading to heavier turf conditions. Slow play occasionally occurs during peak times and weekends, given the popularity among resort guests. Expansion of shaded rest areas and improved pace-of-play signage would elevate the overall guest experience.
