Course Report

Rivermont Golf Club was named Georgia Private Club of the Year in 2014 and has been lauded by architect Tom Doak for its standout holes and exceptional greens.

About

Rivermont Golf Club is a private 18-hole, par-72 parkland course designed by Joe Lee in 1973 and revitalized by Michael Riley in 2006. Nestled north of Atlanta near the Chattahoochee River, it is celebrated for its thoughtful routing, pristine greens, and warm, unpretentious club atmosphere, earning numerous accolades including a top 15 ranking in Georgia.

Caddie Tip

The greens at Rivermont are renowned for their speed and subtle breaks—take time to study the slopes on your approach and around the putting surfaces. Tee shots reward precision over power; smart play favors position over distance on several doglegs. Approach with caution when pins are tucked.

The Main Challenge

The course tests players with narrow, tree-lined fairways and greens protected by expertly placed bunkers. The speedy, undulating putting surfaces are a constant challenge, rewarding only the most precise approach shots and deft touch with the putter.

The Good

Golfers love the challenging, yet fair design featuring impeccably maintained greens and a routing that feels secluded despite being close to Atlanta. The community atmosphere and lack of pretense make it a favorite among members, while standout holes create lasting memories.

The Not So Good

Some visitors mention that the tree-lined fairways can feel tight for higher-handicap players, making recovery shots difficult. Occasional slow play has been noted during peak member times, and the seasonal nature means optimal conditions are best outside the heat of summer.
