Course Report

Rum Pointe is the only course in the Ocean City area offering bentgrass on both fairways and greens, and almost every hole provides a bay view—a rare feature in Maryland.

About

Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links, designed by Pete and P.B. Dye, is a highly regarded Scottish-style links set on the Sinepuxent Bay with stunning views of Assateague National Seashore. Opened in 1997, it features bentgrass fairways and greens, 17 holes with bay views, engaging risk-reward architecture, and a welcoming atmosphere for players of all skill levels.

Caddie Tip

Play conservatively when the wind kicks up, especially on holes along the bay. When in doubt, take one more club and keep the ball low. The links-style encourages bump-and-run approach shots, so take advantage of firm turf whenever possible and avoid biting off too much on forced carries over water.

The Main Challenge

Wind off the bay is a constant threat, especially on holes with direct water exposure. Accuracy on approach shots is essential, as many greens are well protected by bunkers or water. The course’s firm links-style turf rewards creative shotmaking, but wayward drives can quickly find wetlands or hazards.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the spectacular bay views, especially the visual drama and atmosphere as 17 holes play alongside or overlook the water. The Dye family design is considered both beautiful and engaging, integrating natural wetlands and risk-reward challenges for a memorable coastal golf experience.

The Not So Good

During peak seasons, some players comment on slow greens and extended round times due to high demand. Additionally, windy conditions can make play challenging for less experienced golfers, and the openness allows little protection from the elements.
