Course Report

Golfers can fish for trout right beside hole 13, and the course was awarded Canada’s Best New Golf Course and quickly entered the country’s top 10 rankings after opening.

About

Sagebrush Golf Club, designed by Rod Whitman and situated in the scenic Nicola Valley above Nicola Lake, is renowned for its wide fescue fairways and expansive greens. Opened in 2009, it's celebrated for minimalist architecture, a variety of strategic holes, and beautiful mountain views. Noted for its fun and engaging layout, it consistently ranks among Canada’s top courses.

Caddie Tip

Play wide off the tee—use the slopes to bring balls closer to greens, especially on approach shots. On the signature 13th, favor the left side for easier chip recovery. Wind plays a role on elevated holes; pay attention to gusts before deciding club selection. Green contours are pronounced, so read putts from all directions.

The Main Challenge

Sagebrush’s greatest challenge is managing elevation changes and wind on its exposed mountain hillside. The huge greens are difficult to read due to pronounced slopes. Wide fairways are forgiving but require strategic play; several holes tempt aggressive lines but punish errant shots severely.

The Good

Golfers praise Sagebrush for stunning views over Nicola Lake, minimalist design, and huge, imaginative greens. The natural routing and unique approach—no distance markers—let players strategize creatively and experience unstructured, pure golf. The relaxed atmosphere and attentive staff create a welcoming, memorable visit.

The Not So Good

Some find the lack of bunker rakes and distance markers a challenge, and the minimalist amenities may not meet every expectation. Access can be tougher due to its remote location, and golfers sometimes mention a desire for more detailed yardages and better signage around holes.
