Course Report
São Fernando Golf Club was initially built on land donated by Fernando de Almeida Nobre and has hosted some of the most competitive amateur tournaments in Brazil.
About
São Fernando Golf Club, designed by Luther Koontz and later improved by Emilio Serra, is one of Brazil's most respected courses, noted for its diverse parkland layout with lakes, doglegs, and well-maintained conditions. The course is private, set amidst woodland and residential areas, providing technical challenge and scenic views, with year-round play available.
Caddie Tip
Watch out for hidden water hazards throughout the round—ten lakes are in play across the course. On tree-lined holes, favor placement and club selection over power to avoid tricky angles into small greens. On the 14th, keep left off the tee to avoid both lakes and stay clear of a double bogey.
The Main Challenge
The biggest challenge comes from the water hazards—ten lakes threaten multiple holes, notably the daunting 14th. Tight, tree-lined fairways demand accurate tee shots, and well-defended greens require deft short game skills. Strategic course management is a must for a good score.
The Good
Golfers love São Fernando’s classic parkland design—varied doglegs, lakes, and mature trees create an old-world feel rarely found in the region. The fairways and greens are always in excellent condition, and the scenic, quiet setting on the outskirts of São Paulo makes for a relaxing but stimulating round.
The Not So Good
While course conditioning is highly praised, São Fernando can see slow play on weekends and member competition days due to its popularity. Some golfers wish for more modern amenities and expanded tee or practice options to accommodate a wider range of playing abilities.
Signature Hole:
#
14
The 14th hole, a par 4, is renowned for its two lakes that run along both sides of the fairway, requiring an accurate drive and a precise approach shot. The water hazards challenge players’ nerve and shot-making ability, making this a standout hole both for its difficulty and beauty.
Clubhouse
Expect a classic clubhouse with a full-service restaurant and bar, locker rooms, sauna, billiards room, and recreational facilities. Comfortable spots for post-round socializing and limited event hosting are available.
Practice Facilities
The club offers a well-maintained driving range (with both mat and grass hitting areas), putting and chipping greens, and opportunities for lessons and club fitting. Guests also have access to a pro shop and rental services.
