Course Report

The Hankins and Craddock courses at Silvies are fully reversible – on alternate days, the direction of play changes, offering thousands of unique routing variations and using the same set of 27 greens and 16 fairways.

About

The Hankins Course at Silvies Valley Ranch is a reversible 18-hole course designed by Dan Hixson. Routed through high desert, pine forests, and sage meadows, the layout features exceptionally wide fairways and undulating fescue greens. It alternates play each day with the Craddock Course, offering a unique and varied golf experience with stunning natural landscapes.

Caddie Tip

Focus on position and approach shots rather than sheer distance despite the wide fairways. The elevation and wind can make club selection tricky, so always check both before every shot. On approach shots, factor in the firmness of fescue greens and aim for the safe side as balls can easily roll off if not struck properly.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge lies in the fescue greens, which are both spacious and undulating, making approach shots and putting a true test. Wind and elevation changes can make club selection across holes unpredictable. The sagebrush and native grass rough pose additional risk for errant shots, and deep bunkering adds further defense.

The Good

Golfers rave about the creativity of the reversible routing, the varied play experience each day, and the tranquil, untouched scenery. The sheer width of the fairways and the uniqueness of the fescue greens consistently make the round memorable, as does the remote, peaceful ranch setting where wildlife sightings are common.

The Not So Good

Some guests wish for improved signage and on-course navigation as the reversible format can be occasionally confusing for first-timers. Others mention that service or amenities in the clubhouse could be elevated to match the world-class uniqueness of the course and its natural surroundings.

Signature Hole:

#

18

The par-5 18th, nicknamed the 'Hixson Hole,' is a long downhill hole framed by open high-desert landscape. Players are encouraged to go for their longest-ever drive as the fairway is wide, winds are usually helping, and there are markers celebrating distance. The hole finishes near the clubhouse, rewarding accuracy and aggressive play.
