Course Report
The course is routed around seven lakes and was formerly known as Phoenix Springs Country Club before its redesign and rebranding.
About
South Springs Country Club in Icheon is an upscale private course designed by Jim Fazio and Kim Jae-Yeol. Its 18 holes are routed through gentle terrain featuring striking bunkers, seven lakes, and dramatic greensites, with two distinct nines—the Lake and Mountain. Renowned for its strategic layout and luxurious facilities, it caters to both amateurs and experienced golfers.
Caddie Tip
Trust your caddie's local knowledge on approach shots—the subtle elevation changes and swirling winds near the lakes can be deceptive. On the par-5 closing stretch, favor placement over length off the tee to avoid well-placed bunkers and maximize your scoring opportunities.
The Main Challenge
The toughest aspect is the strategic placement of water hazards and expansive bunkers throughout the course. Bold shot-making is required around the lakes, particularly on the signature holes, with many approach shots demanding precision to avoid costly penalties.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise the course’s immaculate condition, strategic design, and the tranquil yet visually striking setting among lakes and natural rock outcrops. Many love the contrast between the Lake and Mountain nines, each offering unique challenges, and the impressive service and amenities.
The Not So Good
Some golfers note that the exclusivity of the membership and associated green fee costs limit access for local enthusiasts. There are occasional comments about slow play during peak hours and wishes for better public practice area access.
Signature Hole:
#

The 8th hole, a dramatic par 3, is the signature at South Springs Country Club. It is famed for its picturesque green backed by a stunning artificial waterfall and surrounded by lakes, providing golfers with a breathtaking backdrop and a memorable test of accuracy.
