Course Report

The Lake Course is regularly ranked among Asia’s Top 10 and was once named the 'Best Golf Course in China' by multiple publications.

About

The Lake Course at Spring City Golf & Lake Resort, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is set on the banks of Yangzonghai Lake near Kunming. Known for its terraced fairways, strategic layout, and stunning lakeside scenery, this par 72 resort course is consistently ranked among Asia's top golf venues and offers an enjoyable yet challenging experience.

Caddie Tip

Trust your caddie’s yardages especially with swirling lakeside winds. Many locals recommend playing conservatively on the narrow, terraced fairways and carefully studying the grain on the fast, subtly breaking greens. For the lakeside holes—keep shots left to avoid tricky water hazards.

The Main Challenge

The course is most demanding on its narrow fairways protected by criss-crossing trenches and terracing, especially when winds blow across Yangzonghai Lake. Carrying water on several key holes and reading the fast, undulating greens pose unique challenges. Accurate approach play is essential for scoring.

The Good

Golfers most love the course’s lakeside holes, panoramic mountain and water views, and the strategic challenge offered by the terraced greens and dramatic elevation changes. The Robert Trent Jones Jr. design maximizes the site’s natural beauty while delivering an engaging round for players of all skill levels.

The Not So Good

Some guests mention slow rounds during busy periods and note that the terrain’s slopes can be physically demanding to walk. At certain times, the popularity with tour groups can make for crowded facilities, and more English-language signage could improve the visitor experience.
