Course Report
The course sits on land where Lewis and Clark once traveled, and preserves five Civil War-era graves throughout the property.
About
St Albans Tavern Creek is a beautifully routed, private 18-hole course in Missouri, designed by Dana Fry and Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Opened in 1997, it features dramatic rock-lined creeks on 12 holes and impeccable use of the Missouri River Valley’s vistas. The club is regarded as one of the premier private golf destinations in the St. Louis region.
Caddie Tip
With striking elevation changes and water in play on two-thirds of the holes, club selection and precise shot placement are crucial. Keep drives controlled to avoid creeks on the front, and play conservatively when approaching green complexes near water.
The Main Challenge
Frequent elevation shifts and hazards mean that misjudged shots can quickly add strokes. The routing cleverly forces decisions around creeks or through heavily bunkered corridors, testing even experienced players throughout the round.
The Good
Golfers rave about the dramatic scenery and expertly routed holes that showcase the riverside landscapes and well-preserved Missouri woodlands. The integration of water features adds to both the visual appeal and strategic depth, creating memorable rounds across all ability levels.
The Not So Good
As a private club, tee time access can be limited during member events and course closures for maintenance. Some players would like increased practice space and improved pace of play late in the season during busy periods.
