Course Report

Stratton Mountain Resort hosted six LPGA Tour events, making it one of the few Vermont courses with professional tournament history.

About

Stratton Mountain Resort Golf Course, designed by Geoffrey Cornish, spans 27 championship holes across three scenic nines—Lake, Mountain, and Forest. The layout blends rolling terrain, water features, and mountain views, offering challenge and playability for all skill levels. A former LPGA venue, the course is known for its strategic routing and memorable Green Mountain setting.

Caddie Tip

Plan for significant elevation changes; club up when hitting uphill, especially on the closing holes. On the signature 9th, favor the left side off the tee for a better angle on your uphill approach. Greens often break more than they appear due to subtle mountain slopes.

The Main Challenge

The most challenging aspect is the elevation changes, which test club selection and shot planning throughout the round. Several holes feature uphill approaches with guarded greens and natural hazards, while mountain contours can cause tricky putts and uneven lies.

The Good

Golfers love the combination of natural mountain scenery and a strategic, varied layout across three distinct nines. The course’s former LPGA pedigree and attentive maintenance make every round enjoyable. Scenic mountain panoramas and tranquil surroundings provide a unique resort golf experience in New England.

The Not So Good

Some players note pace of play can slow during peak summer weekends, especially with resort guests and rotating nines. Occasional soggy conditions follow heavy rain due to the course’s mountain location. A few fairways could benefit from minor drainage improvements.

Signature Hole:

#

9

No items found.

The par 5 9th hole on the Mountain Nine is recognized for its dramatic elevation change and risk-reward design. Beginning alongside the lake, the fairway ascends sharply, with a pond guarding the green. Long hitters can reach it in two, but approach accuracy is vital due to three sizeable bunkers protecting the sides.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The mountain lodge-style clubhouse features a golf shop, locker rooms, and a lounge with food and beverage service. Visitors will find tournament services, club rentals, and attentive staff. After the round, enjoy outdoor seating with mountain views. Additional resort amenities like lodging and spa are steps away.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Stratton Mountain offers a complete practice facility with a grass driving range, short game area, and putting green. Lessons and clinics are available through golf staff, and equipment rentals accommodate both adults and juniors. Facilities are maintained to help prepare for challenging mountain play.
