Course Report

Tetherow was ranked the #1 Best New Course You Can Play by Golf Magazine upon its debut, and it continues to receive national acclaim for its unique high desert links-style design.

About

Tetherow Golf Club in Bend, Oregon is a par 72 course designed by David McLay Kidd, set amidst dramatic high desert terrain with panoramic Cascade Mountain views. Noted for its challenging links-style layout, fescue grass, and strategic bunkering, the course delivers a firm, fast playing experience, garnering high national rankings since opening.

Caddie Tip

Play conservatively off the tee as the firm fescue fairways run fast and can quickly direct balls into strategic bunkers or native areas. Approach shots require precision due to undulating greens and tightly mowed surrounds. Pay close attention to elevation changes, especially on the front nine.

The Main Challenge

Firm, fast fescue fairways and creative bunkering demand precise shot placement. The undulating greens require deft putting and chipping, while high desert winds and elevation changes call for distance adjustments. Strategic risk-reward holes add suspense throughout the round.

The Good

Golfers love the visually striking links-style architecture, fast and firm fescue turf, and panoramic vistas of snowy Cascade peaks. The course challenges adept players but offers immense satisfaction and scenic variety with every hole. Spectacular sunsets and the rugged high desert setting enhance the overall atmosphere.

The Not So Good

Players occasionally mention that the firmness of the fescue fairways and high desert winds can make the course play extremely difficult and less forgiving for mid- and high-handicappers. Some wish for more forgiving rough or gentler green surrounds.
