Course Report
Castelfalfi Golf Club is GEO Certified™ for environmental sustainability, employing rainwater recovery and eco-friendly maintenance throughout the course.
About
Toscana Resort Castelfalfi features the Mountain Course, the largest 18-hole layout in Tuscany, originally designed by Pier Luigi Mancinelli and later redesigned by Wilfried Moroder and Rainer Preissmann. Routed through vineyards, olive groves, and forested hills, the course blends Tuscan landscape with challenging contours. Renowned for eco-sensitivity and panoramic countryside views, it offers a memorable resort golf experience.
Caddie Tip
Be mindful of elevation changes throughout the round; approach shots often play shorter than they appear, especially on steeply downhill holes like 9 and 18. Many greens have pronounced contours, so favor positioning below the hole for uphill putts and use extra caution when approaching fast, sloping putting surfaces.
The Main Challenge
The toughest aspect is the undulating terrain, particularly on back-nine climbs, and holes with significant elevation changes. Several long par 4s require precise tee shots to sloped fairways, while narrow greens and cleverly placed bunkers test approach play and short game, especially in windy conditions.
The Good
Golfers rave about the course’s breathtaking setting, with sweeping views over Tuscan hills, olive groves, and castles on every hole. The blend of natural beauty, undulating terrain, and tranquility creates a uniquely serene round that perfectly embodies the spirit of Tuscany.
The Not So Good
Guests sometimes mention thin turf in shaded areas and a pace of play that slows during weekends or resort peak periods. Limited on-course water stations may also be an issue during hot summer days, and some visitors desire more frequent fairway maintenance and detail on the less traveled holes.
Signature Hole:
#
9
The par 3 9th hole is one of Tuscany’s most dramatic: playing steeply downhill over 40 meters to a narrow, peninsula green set against a stunning castle backdrop. The elevation change, panoramic views, and water hazards combine for a thrilling, memorable shot demanding precision and nerve.
Clubhouse
Expect an elegant clubhouse with locker rooms, pro shop, and terrace restaurant serving local cuisine and wines. The adjacent luxury resort amenities include spa, pools, and bars, providing a full-service, upscale hospitality experience after the round.
Practice Facilities
The resort features a modern practice area with large grass driving range, short-game area, and putting greens. Instruction is available, and the practice grounds offer wide views of the rolling countryside, making warmups relaxing and enjoyable.
