Course Report

The Players Course was originally part of The Country Club of Sarasota before joining the TPC Network and underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2017–2018.

About

TPC Prestancia’s Players Course, designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin, winds through Palmer Ranch’s wooded terrain in Sarasota. Renovated recently, it blends classic shot values with Florida water features and oaks, offering a blend of challenging doglegs and enjoyable playability. Known for meticulous maintenance, it delivers a private club experience with strong member camaraderie.

Caddie Tip

Be precise off the tee—oak-lined fairways and several doglegs demand smart club selection over power. Pay close attention to hole placement on the greens, as subtle slopes can cause three-putts. When approaching the 18th, aim for the left center to leave a clear shot into the green and avoid trouble on the right.

The Main Challenge

The true challenge of the Players Course is managing shot placement among mature trees, doglegs, and water hazards—especially on the back nine, which features several risk-reward decisions. Greens are fast and subtly contoured, demanding focus to avoid costly putts. Wind off the coast occasionally influences club selection.

The Good

Golfers love the Players Course for its vibrant landscaping, well-maintained fairways, and strong mixture of challenging and enjoyable holes. Members praise the recent renovations that revitalized playability and the welcoming atmosphere throughout the club. The service and practice areas are continuously rated as top-notch in community feedback.

The Not So Good

Some players note the front nine can feel repetitive and lacks personality compared to the more dynamic back nine. Home-lined holes and occasional noise from the residential community may detract from the immersion. Afternoon pace of play may slow as members socialize and enjoy the facilities.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The 18th hole is a challenging par 4 finale bordered by water and protected by mature oaks. A precise tee shot is required to avoid the dogleg and set up a demanding approach to a well-guarded green. Water and bunkering influence strategy, making this one of the most memorable finishing holes on the course.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Amenities include a redesigned clubhouse with casual and fine dining, banquet and meeting rooms, outdoor patios, modern locker rooms, and a well-stocked golf shop. Social events, a fitness center, and access to tennis and swimming add a robust country club experience.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The club features a full-length driving range, renovated short-game practice area, separate chipping and putting greens, and a new putting course—designed to replicate course green speeds and contour variety. Instruction is available, and the practice complex is among the largest in the region.
