Course Report

TPC Wisconsin hosts the PGA TOUR Champions’ American Family Insurance Championship starting in 2025, marking the first major tour event for the newly rebranded course.

About

TPC Wisconsin, formerly Cherokee Country Club, is a private 18-hole golf course on 154 acres adjoining Madison’s Cherokee Marsh. Newly renovated by PGA Tour star Steve Stricker and Steve Wenzloff, the course reopened in 2023 as part of the TPC Network, offering a challenging layout and top-tier conditions for members amid scenic surroundings.

Caddie Tip

Position is critical off the tee—favor the wider side of fairways to allow clear approaches, especially with wetlands and water hazards coming into play around key holes. Take one more club into elevated or exposed greens, as winds shift direction across the open marshland landscape.

The Main Challenge

The primary challenge at TPC Wisconsin is positioning. Wetlands and water hazards wind through the property, requiring precise club selection from tee to green. The course penalizes errant drives with strategic bunkering and natural barrier hazards, while approach shots must contend with undulating, fast greens and protective edges.

The Good

Golfers love the newly restored layout blending modern tournament standards with natural Wisconsin marshland. The combination of strategic bunkering, state-of-the-art practice facilities, and attentive staff create a premium overall experience, making each round feel special for members and their guests.

The Not So Good

TPC Wisconsin has received feedback regarding limited public access due to its private club model, and tee time demand often outpaces member slots during prime hours. Some players would like to see more on-course comfort stations and enhanced walkability over the wetland areas.

Signature Hole:

#

Clubhouse

No items found.

The renovated clubhouse offers luxury dining, large locker rooms, banquet spaces, casual and formal lounges, fitness and racquet facilities, a swimming pool, and expanded meeting rooms—providing an upscale social environment for members and guests.

Practice Facilities

The club features the American Family Steve Stricker Golf Academy, an advanced indoor/outdoor practice center, state-of-the-art short game area, putting greens, and a full grass range. PGA instruction, indoor simulators, and video analysis support year-round game improvement.
